Project Details

O誰eal provided preconstruction, detailed design, procurement and construction for this grassroots fiberglass manufacturing facility in Western Tennessee. The three-story, 200,000-square-foot facility is designed to manufacture 130 million pounds of chopped stand fiberglass annually. The facility is owned and operated by a third party, using technology provided by PPG Industries.

O誰eal coordinated all design components and provided preliminary and detailed design for the following processes:

  • Railcar and truck unloading
  • Raw material storage silos
  • Binder process including material handling, weighing, mixing, heating, material transfer, circulation, storage and delivery
  • Forming Quench air system which includes four 78,000 cfm air washers and four 85,000 cfm return air units
  • Melter side wall cooling and melter dampening air
  • Front-end combustion air system
  • Electric boost cooling water system
  • Recycled glass system
  • Good product and recycled material conveying systems
  • Material weighing and packaging systems

O誰eal designed all plant utilities including:

  • Plant fire protection system with a 300,000-gallon fire water storage tank and two diesel driven fire water pumps
  • Process cooling water system with two levels of emergency back-up for critical cooling water systems
  • Process chilled water system including three 900-ton chillers and a primary secondary chilled water circulation system
  • Process and utility cooling towers including four Marley cooling towers
  • Plant compressed air system consisting of three 2,000-cfm centrifugal air compressors and regenerative air dryers
  • Natural gas distribution
  • Propane storage for back-up of the plant natural gas system
  • Waste water treatment system including, filtering, PH adjustment, surge capacity and sampling of effluent
