O'Neal Awarded Detailed Design of National Gypsum's Mill Expansion

National Gypsum Company, (Charlotte, NC) a leading manufacturer of gypsum wallboard, has awarded the detailed design of the expansion of its Anniston, AL mill to O'Neal, Inc. The expansion will include installing a 590 Machine-Dryed Tons-Per-Day (MDTPD), state-of-the-art, three-ply gypsum linerboard paper machine. The company will invest approximately $115 million in the project. The major process systems consist of new and refurbished equipment and include: filler stock preparation, liner stock preparation, board machine, winding and finished roll handling, white water clarification and broke handling. Start up of the machine is scheduled for 2009. The new three-ply paper fourdrinier machine will use state-of-the-art technology to produce a strong, yet light-weight sheet of paper. With the technology, less fiber is used to produce the sheet and, because of the reduced weight, the company can ship more paper per truck to its wallboard plants. The machine allows for efficient production of 54-inch paper as well as 48-inch paper. National Gypsum operates four paper mills, recycling 100 percent waste paper to produce the facing paper for its gypsum wallboard. The company is one of the largest waste paper recyclers in the nation.

Headquartered in Charlotte, NC, National Gypsum has over 40 locations including laboratories; mines and quarries; paper mills; wallboard, interior finishing products, and cement board plants.
