Advanced Packaging Solutions Fire Rebuild
Delivery Method: Design and Construction
Location: Macon, GA
Services Provided: Demolition, Design and Construction
Project Size: 237,000 Square Feet
On May 1, 2013, a fire at Pactivs Advanced Packaging
Solutions plant on Airport Drive in Macon, GA destroyed most of the
237,000-square-foot building. Pactiv, a long-time client, turned to ONeal for
a design-build solution to demolish the existing building and design and build
a new structure as fast as possible.
ONeal responded by quickly identifying and engaging local
vendors and subcontractors to conduct a forensic engineering analysis and
immediately begin the demolition process.
ONeal managed the demolition and removal of the building structure,
architectural components, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, equipment and
general debris in an expedited manner. Simultaneously, design began,
preconstruction was engaged and construction operations were mobilized.
ONeals creative approach to design and construction will allow Pactiv to
begin operations two months before they were expected to begin production.
The new facility is 160,000 square feet and was constructed
around the salvaged manufacturing lines.
ONeals team managed demolition, restoration, design and construction
of the egg carton manufacturing plant on a turn-key basis. ONeal worked
closely with the local authorizes to help advance the project schedule.
The company expects to begin construction this summer with the intent to be fully operational during the first quarter of 2014, Cliffard Whitby, the Macon-Bibb County Industrial chairman, said. Once construction is completed the plant will employ approximately the same number of people at the plant as it did before the fire, most of who still work for the company in some capacity.
